    Natalie Shanahan has a BSc in Genetics and a MSc in Bioinformatics. She worked as a lecturer, teaching genetics and biochemistry, before moving to Australia to work for their first Bioinformatics company. Natalie left her career in science to follow her passion for fitness and became a personal trainer and nutrition consultant. She has helped optimise the lifestyles of hundreds of people from athletes to the elderly.

    Natalie created the Body and Mind plan with Psychologist, Dr Helena Nundy, to help people create long term lifestyle changes and healthier relationships with food. They have successfully run this program for various fitness organisations from Be Military Fit (BMF) to boutique London Personal Training studio, Proathlon. Natalie also offers talks and workshops on topics including brain health, longevity, male and female nutrition, sports nutrition, menopause, sleep, movement and pain. She has presented in several major corporations, law firms and banks as well as running a yearly wellness program for Helaba Bank during lockdown.

    In Natalie’s current role as Science Writer for London Newspaper, Eye on London, she investigates the latest cutting edge research and technology and compiles this into an easy to understand format for everyone to enjoy. Her aim is to arm people with scientific information and inspire them to make the right choices for creating a long and healthy life.

    We all encounter difficult times in life. The loss of loved ones, relationship breakdown, difficulties at work, and poor physical health, for example, may have a huge impact on our ability to function. We may feel anxious or depressed and find it difficult to know what to do to feel better. At these times counselling may be beneficial. I believe that one of the most important aspects of counselling is the relationship that we develop between us, and I offer a safe and non-judgemental space where we can work together to explore the issues that are important to you.

    I will not tell you what to do, but will work with you to understand the difficulties you are experiencing and to find ways of coping with the challenges that life throws at us.

    I offer individual counselling and work integratively, drawing on person-centred, psychodynamic and cognitive behavioural models. I have a particular interest in bereavement and experiences of loss, including the breakdown of relationships. I currently offer sessions face-to-face in Blackheath Village and in Greenwich, online, as well as walking therapy in Greenwich Park.

    I offer a free 15-20 minute initial telephone conversation. This provides the opportunity for us to briefly discuss what has brought you to counselling at this time, and gives you a sense of the way that I work. We can then work out whether we would be a good fit to continue with regular sessions together.     QUALIFICATION

    I hold a Professional Doctorate in Counselling Psychology, a Masters in Mental Health Studies and an undergraduate degree in Psychology.

    I am a registered Practitioner Psychologist with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and I am a chartered member of the British Psychological Society (BPS).

    I have experience working in a variety of settings including mental health charities, community counselling, and primary care. I have worked with a range of issues including depression, anxiety, bereavement, relationship difficulties, work related issues, and other such difficulties.

I am a 40+ year old woman who has trained regularly for many years and have never lacked motivation to go to the gym, however, my diet has been my weak link.

This is why I decided to join Natalie’s Body & Mind Group. Natalie provided me with a personalised nutrition plan and through the 10 week programme talked me through the science and reasoning behind my plan.

I was pleasantly surprised at how much I could actually eat and was happy to follow the plan for the whole 10 weeks, with only a few cheats! The results are clear; I dropped from 31% body fat down to 17%!

This came off mainly my arms, back and legs - all the right places! I have no hesitation in recommending Natalie both as a meal planner and as a PT. I will be returning to my plan in January as it energised my gym sessions and gave me control over my fitness goals!
